摘要 / Abstract:

Buddhism has developed pilgrimage patterns that relate to both fixed and immovable sites as well as establishing new places of spiritual power. These varied practices influenced the way in which art, architecture, and monastic life developed. Today, pilgrims flock to Buddhist localities that mark the events of the life of Sakyamuni in India. At the same time more recent local spots attract pilgrims in every nation of Asia, especially China. The process by which sacrality is moved and expanded is a major aspect of how Buddhism developed and spread over past centuries.
