韋應物詩選 ─ 寄李儋元錫
唐 韋應物 ( 737~792 )

去年花裡逢君別,今日花開又一年;
世事茫茫難自料,春愁黯黯獨成眠。
身多疾病思田里,邑有流亡愧俸錢;
聞道欲來相問訊,西樓望月幾回圓。

──選自《全唐詩》

Selected Works by Wei Yingwu - To Li Dan and Yuan Xi
Wei Yingwu (737 - 792, Tang Dynasty)
English translation: Miao Guang and Zhi Yue

Last year we met and parted amidst the blossoms,
Another year gone,
    flowers have bloomed again.
Worldly affairs are so vast and hard to manage,
A sadness in spring,
    the gloominess of sleeping alone in darkness.
With a body covered in illness,
    I think of the fields,
Exiles within the precinct shames me of my pay.
Upon the question, “Come and have an exchange?”
How many full moons are there to witness
    from the Western Pavilion?
