青松與花

善似青松惡似花，
看看眼前不如它；
有朝一日遭霜打，
只見青松不見花。

Green Pine and Flowers
Liu Ji (1311 - 1375, Ming Dynasty)
English translation: Miao Guang

Good is like the pine, and evil the flower,
At one glance the latter may seem lesser;
Until the day when both are slashed by frost,
All that is left is the pine, not the flower.
