不見不聞的世界

「真正會聽的人，要聽無聲之聲；
真正會看的人，要看無相之相。」

我閉目不看，在漆黑的世界裡，我燃起一
盞心燈，世界的一切原來都在自己的心中。
我學會了不看外而看內，不看有而看無，
不看妄而看真，不看他而看己。三個月後，
我在長廊上睜開眼睛，見到外界的青山綠水、
藍天白雲，真是美不勝收！

經過一番反觀自照的日子，雖然看山還是
山，看水還是水，但是心裡的感覺已經和以
前大不相同了。

直到現在，我走夜路，上下樓梯，即使不
用眼睛看，也都很自如無礙。甚至我常覺得：
用心眼去感受世間事，比用肉眼去觀察還要
來得如實真切。

A World of Not Looking and Not Listening

One who truly knows how to listen,
    listens to the sound of silence.
One who genuinely knows how to look,
    looks at the inner world.

At these words, I closed my eyes and stopped looking. In a
world of darkness, I lit a light in my mind, finding everything
on earth right there—in my mind. I learned to look inward,
not outward; at the nonexisting, not the existing; at the real,
not the illusory; at myself, not others.

Walking down a long corridor three months later, I opened
my eyes again. The sights—green hills and bodies of water,
and white clouds in a clear blue sky—were too beautiful to
be fully appreciated. After a period of self-reflection, the
hills and water were still the same as I had seen them, but the
feelings I had were much different from what they had been
in the past.

To this day, I can still walk in the dark or climb stairs in
ease—without using my eyes. Things in the world would
be much more accurately perceived if we use our minds’,
instead of our physical, eyes.
