至道無難,唯嫌揀擇;
違順相爭,是為心病;
莫逐有緣,勿住空忍;
二見不住,慎勿追尋;
六塵不惡,還同正覺;
夢幻空華,何勞把捉;

Faith in Mind
Sengcan ( ? - 606, Sui Dynasty)
English translation: Miao Guang
It is not difficult to attain the Way,
Except when you have preferences;
You just need not hate or love,
To thoroughly understand why.
The struggle between rejection or acceptance
Is just an illness of the mind;
Failing to realize the profound objective,
Quiescence of the mind would only be futile.
Chase not any conditionality of existence,
Never abide in the patience of emptiness;
With a sense of equality,
All will naturally extinguish.
As soon as concepts of right and wrong exist,
Chaos would begin in the mind,
The Six Objects* were never unwholsome,
They are but equivalent to enlightenment.
Dreams, delusions, and flower in the sky
Are not worth the effort of grasping;
Be it gain, loss, right, or wrong,
Let it go once and for all.
── from Yuxuan Yulu (Sayings from the Imperial Writings)
* Refers to the six sense objects: sight, sound, smell, taste,
touch, and Dharma.
