忍辱護真心
唐 寒山 ( 生卒年不詳 )

吾心似秋月,碧潭清皎潔;
無物堪比倫,教我如何說?
瞋是心中火,能燒功德林;
欲行菩薩道,忍辱護真心。

──選自《寒山子詩集》

Protecting the True Mind with Forbearance
Hanshan (Years unknown, Tang Dynasty)
English translation: Miao Guang and You Zai

My mind is like the autumn moon,
    perfectly bright and clear as the emerald lake.
Since nothing can compare with it,
    how am I to put such thoughts into words?

Anger is the mind’s fire,
    that burns away the forest of merits.
If one wishes to practice the bodhisattva path,
    protect the true mind with forbearance.

── from Hanshanzi Shiji (Collected Poems of Hanshanzi)
