可以擴大自己的胸襟;

「人我互調」能慈悲;

人之大善在於知過能改;

明白因果的道理更好;
能化干戈為玉帛,消怨懟於無形;

Compassion and Everlasting Happiness
Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927 - , Fo Guang Shan)
English translation: John Balcom

Learning to “pick it up” and “let it go”
Can expand the breadth of your mind.
Being able to see far ahead and do the right thing
Can elevate your life.

── from After Many Autumns

English translation: Tom Manzo and Shujan Cheng

By taking the short end of the stick,
You can cultivate virtue.
By putting yourself in other’s shoes,
You can develop compassion.
By accepting what is,
You can be carefree.
By enjoying without owning,
You can always be happy.

── from Humble Table, Wise Fare

English translation: Man Ho and Zhi Yue

The wise are not delighted by praise;
    great virtue comes from
    admitting and correcting one’s mistakes.

The benevolent are not delighted by freedom from suffering;
    great morality comes from
    sharing one’s goodness with the rest of the world.

It is good to believe in the Buddhist truth;
    it is better to realize the law of causality.
It is good to understand the essence of equality;
    it is better to follow the principle of dependent origination.*

Only compassion can
    turn enemies into friends, and
    diminish resentment and opposition.
Only compassion can
    turn adversity into favorable circumstances, and
    succeed in the endeavor to benefit all beings.

── from Fo Guang Cai Gen Tan (Roots of Wisdom; *The Everlasting Light)
