放下得失
佛光星雲 ( 1927~ )

世間的得失皆有前因，
人生的苦樂都有所緣。

好心一起，一切吉祥如意；
惡念一生，百萬障門開啟。

考試的窄門，總會有一些人中選；
考試的結果，總會有一些人落榜。
跨進門檻的人，並不意味成功的一生；
被摒在外的人，也不注定永世的失敗。

超脫榮辱毀譽，就是解脫；
看淡成敗得失，就能放下。

競賽時，要有「我最好」的信心；
落選時，要有「你最好」的風度。

以愛才能贏得愛，以恨不能贏得愛；
以敬才能贏得敬，以瞋不能贏得敬。

Letting Go of Gain and Loss
Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927 - , Fo Guang Shan)

Gain and loss, suffering and happiness,
come from our past causes and conditions.

Goodwill opens the gateway to good luck.
Evil thought opens the gateway to hindrances.

Some will pass their examinations, some will fail.
Those who pass won’t necessarily succeed later,
and those who fail will be a failure.

Liberation means rising above honor and humiliation,
    slander and praise.
Detachment means rising above success and failure,
    gain and loss.

When competing,
    have the confidence that you are the best.
When losing,
    have the grace to admit that others are the best.

Only love can win love, and hatred cannot win love.
Only respect can win respect, and anger cannot win respect.
