Mind
Hanshan Deqing (1546 - 1623, Ming Dynasty)
English translation: Cindy Choi

As the life of a garuda nears its end,
Flesh and bone dissipate completely.
Only the mind remains,
Bright light perfectly illuminating.
Taken by the dragon-king as a pearl,
That casts away all darkness.
The Chakravartin attains a wish-granting jewel,
Relieving all from every calamity.
How has it come to be within all,
Functioning daily, yet unseen?

── from Hanshan Laoren Mengyou Ji (Collection of Old Man Hanshan’s Dream Travels)
