常州天寧寺聞禮懺聲
徐志摩 ( 1897~1931 )

我聽著了天寧寺的禮懺聲！
這鼓一聲，鐘一聲，磐一聲，
木魚一聲，佛號一聲......樂音在大殿裡，
迂緩的，漫長的迴盪著，
無數衝突的波流諧和了，
無數相反的色彩淨化了，
無數現世的高低消滅了......
這一聲佛號，一聲鐘，一聲鼓，
一聲木魚，一聲磐，諧音磅礡在宇宙間──解開
一小顆時間的埃塵，收束了無量數世紀的因果；
這是哪裡來的大和諧──星海裡的光彩，
大千世界的音籟，真生命的洪流：止息了一切的動，
一切的擾攘；在天地的盡頭，在金漆的殿椽間，
在佛像的眉宇間，在我的衣袖裡，在耳鬢邊，
在官感裡，在心靈裡，在夢裡......
大圓覺底裡流出的歡喜，在偉大的，莊嚴的，
寂滅的，無疆的，和諧的靜定中實現了！

Hearing the Sounds of the Repentance Service at Tianning Temple, Changzhou
Xu Zhimo (1897 - 1931)

I listen to the sound of the repentance service at Tianning
Temple! The drum sounds, then the bell, followed by the gong.
Then the woodenfish, and then the Buddha’s name... The sound
of chanting echoes in the Main Shrine, slow and inundated, like
countless conflicting waves coming to a unison, like countless
contrasting colors being purified, like countless altitudes in the
world disappearing.

The harmonic sound of the Buddha's name, bell, drum, and
gong pervades the universe─dissolving all defilements for a
moment in time and gathers all the causes and conditions of
innumerable centuries.

Where does this great harmony─the brilliance of a sea
of stars, the music of the universe, the powerful current
of life─come from? It stops all movements and ceases all
disturbances. At the edge of heaven and earth, within a golden
shrine, in between the brows of the Buddha image, inside my
sleeves, near my ears and temple, inside my organs, inside my
spirit, inside a dream...

The joy flowing from perfect enlightenment manifests from
the unshakable calm of a great, majestic, nirvanic, and boundless
harmony!
