Doors to back doors: unorthodox and not upright.
Doors to people of heresy: by crooked means.
Door jerry-built: exposing one’s incompetence before a connoisseur.
Doors closed to build a cart: complacent and conservative.
Door passed without entering: preoccupied with reasons.
Doors of the nobility are as vast as the sea: difficult entry.
Door closed to reflect on one’s error: pondering over mistakes.
Doors closed to visitors: saving one’s strength in retreat.
Door opened to true intentions: to come straight to the point.
Door once opened, seven matters await each morning: daily errands.
Door to the family protected: diligent and arduous work required.
Doors to a thousand households: all are good neighbors.
Door painted in red and lady’s chamber: only in prosperous houses.
Door to a promising future: coming from a line of generals.
Door of Cheng Yi covered in snow: utmost reverence for one’s teacher.
Doors to real life outside the city gates: signs of old age, sickness, death, and rebirth.
Door of no door through which you attain enlightenment.
Door of the Sow: Chan Master who became enlightened upon breaking his leg.
Door leading to skill mastery: whole-hearted concentration.
