若言聲在指頭上，
何不於君指上聽？

Chan Poems of Su Dongpo - The Topic Falls on Your Zither
Su Shi (1036 - 1101, Song Dynasty)
English translation: Miao Guang

If the sound of a zither comes from the instrument itself,
then why doesn't it sound when placed inside a case?

If the sound of a zither plays from your fingers, then why
don't we just listen to those fingers of yours?
