禪的生活

禪者在衣食住行的生活裡，離不開作務；
如同魚離不開水，樹少不了土。

生活作務是禪者的道糧，很多禪師都是
在彎腰劈砍，直身挑擔之間開悟的。

同樣的，生存於世，我們每個人要工作、
要務實、要體驗、要磨心志、要刮骨髓，
人生不經過千生萬死，不能體會萬死千
生，怎麼能入道、能成功呢?

A Life of Chan
Venerable Master Hsing Yun (1927 - , Fo Guang Shan)

The daily life of a Chan practitioner cannot be
separated from his work, just as fish cannot live
without water and trees cannot grow without soil.
The daily labor of a Chan practitioner are the provisions
which support him on the path. Many Chan Masters
have become enlightened while bending over piles of
split wood or shouldering heavy loads as part of their
daily work.

Similarly, in order to sustain our livelihoods, we
need to work and handle all sorts of tasks while
experiencing and testing our resolve to the marrow.
It is only by repeatedly starting over from scratch that
we can be successful in our Chan practice.
