董遇傳
西晉 陳壽 ( 233~297 )

人有從學者，遇不肯教之，而云：「必當先讀百遍。」
言：「讀書百遍，其義自見。」

從學者云：「苦渴無日。」

遇言：「當以三餘。」

或問三餘之意？

遇言：「冬者歲之餘，夜者日之餘，陰雨者時之餘。」

【譯文】 有人想要跟隨董遇學習,董遇卻不肯教，說：「一定要先做到，
讀書百遍。」說：「只有多讀書，它本身的含義才會顯現出來。」
請教的人說：「您說的有道理，只是苦於沒有時間。」
董遇說：「應當用『三餘』時間。」
有人問「三餘」是什麼？
董遇說：「三餘，就是三種空閑時間。冬天，沒有多少農活，這是一年裡的空
閑時間：夜間，不便下地勞動，這是一天裡的空閑時間；雨天，不好出門幹活，
也是一種空閑時間。」

When a pupil approached me for instructions in learning,
I refused to give so and said instead, "You should first read
the teaching a hundred times." I further added, "Having read
the book a hundred times, the meaning shall come to you."

"What if we do not have the luxury of time?" asked the pupil.

"Employ the three spare times," I replied.

"What are these three times?"

"The spare times of winter, night times, and rainy days."
