春花秋月何時了，往事知多少。
小樓昨夜又東風，
故國不堪回首月明中。
雕闌玉砌應猶在，只是朱顏改。
問君能有幾多愁，
恰似一江春水向東流。

When will the spring blossoms and
    the autumn moon ever wilt or wane?
How much knowledge of the past
    can one ever gain?
Last night's east wind
    swept across my attic once again,
Under this bright moonlight,
    unbearable it is to recall my lost reign.
Suppose the carved balustrades,
    and the stairs of jade still remain,
With only faces of beauty
    no longer the same.
When asked how much sorrow I can take,
Like that river of spring, east to the sea it emanates.
