Taking Refuge in the Triple Gem, Looking South of the River
Wang Anshi (1021 - 1086, Song Dynasty)
English translation: Alex Amies

Taking refuge in the Buddha, three Asamkhyeya Kalpas pass with a
snap of the fingers. I vow to quickly attain unexcelled enlightenment,
returning when there is a Buddha at this place of practice, able to act
with wisdom and compassion.

Taking refuge in the Dharma, although dharmas are inconceivable.
I vow to always calm the six senses, with a heart like a jeweled moon
shining with lapis lazuli, comprehending the Dharma with no doubts.

Taking refuge in the Sangha, I vow to live peacefully and free from
desires with the Four Comportments.* I vow to travel to many
Buddha lands, never forgetting the sages of the ten directions,
always extinguishing the suffering of Samsara.

── from Linchuan Wenji (Linchuan Collected Works)

* Walking like the wind, standing like a pine, sitting like a bell, and sleeping like a bow.
